Richard Templar's book, The Rules of Work, explains how to be successful at work. For some people, his advice will be obvious.
But, if you're like me, you know that you are a good worker, but it seems like no one is willing to consider you outside of your current role. It's happened enough to me to be a pattern, so I began wondering, "Why do I keep becoming indispensable and thus, stuck in the same job? What am I missing? Is there something successful people do that I don't?"
As a matter of fact, yes, there are a lot of things. The Rules of Work will help anyone with enough imagination (you are a rules player, so of course you do) to apply his rules to their situation.
As soon as I began reading the book, I knew I needed to make a discipline of using The Rules. There are 108 rules. So, by exploring 2 rules each week, it should take about 1 year to examine all of them.
I'd like to invite you, as a reader of The Rules of Work for Administrative Professionals, to join me on my journey. Please comment and share your own experiences on the way. Don't worry if you start later than I do - it doesn't matter if we're on the same rule or not.
